New Website with iPhone function & a cure for small thumbnail syndrome

The only two things that I don’t like about my website is the inability to view my site on iPhones/iPads/iPod Touches and the thumbnails are way too small and there are too few when looking through an album of a few hundred images.

So I’m upgrading and a few additions I really like are the full screen button and facebook button… and if I get real ambitious I’ll add a ‘blog’ button but what’s the point letting people know you have an inconsistent blog? But the main reason for upgrading is so you can view my images on cool portable devices… the only downside is no music or video is supported but I’m happy to pay only $50 to add the iPhone functionality and I did pay only $100 for a new website template to fix my small thumbnail syndrome on my current site.

Ski Season Dump

I had one ski goal this year… Get up the mountain more than I did last year.

With only one ski day under my belt last year it wasn’t difficult to hit my goal but sometimes having an easy goal that I know I can hit feels better than a challenging goal that I’m not confident in and don’t follow through with.

So I got up 5 times this year… kinda weak in all the years I have been skiing but much better than the one day last year.

This end of April beginning of May 7 foot dump was a lot of fun to go play in.

This is the start of bringing two of my passions together, skiing and photography and I look forward to what next season will bring… more days on the mountain and more photos

… and the sexy stuff

I have always enjoyed taking photographs but hadn’t considered it as my vocation until at the end of a well paying personally disinteresting occupation of 10 years. I had one of those ‘a-ha!’ moments… an awakening and understanding to create and contribute through the art of photography. Looking back it was also a ‘Duh!’ moment because it is the perfect fit for who I am that I can’t believe I didn’t see it a long time ago. It’s only been 3.5 years since I picked up an SLR and am driven to pursue 3 things in my photographic life. Travel, take photos, get paid (#3 being there to make the first two happen). Sheesh!

It’s been a minute since the last time I even thought about this blog. I never really told anyone about it and it’s been over a year since I started this so whether I write on this blog or not probably doesn’t matter. I could take it or leave it which is where I usually like things… no expectations one way or the other and just enjoy how it plays out.

Sometimes I find myself wanting to express or share some of my experiences I have had, am having and will have. I don’t necessarily want to share my thoughts with the world but I also don’t mind so much either. Since this blog has been abandoned it should remain pretty intimate. I don’t like sharing all my biz on social networking sites so this will be a nice outlet that’s not in your face so much.

The only reason I searched out my own blog again was because I was appreciating my life and wanted to express it. I am happy to know that I am contributing to the greater good of the world, as minimal as it may be, through my photography.I love what I do with my time and who I share it with. I don’t recall a time in my life that I have been happier. My life has had a significant shift the last 3-5 years in regards to how I think, what I believe, what things ‘mean’ and even a drastic career change that has lead me to type these very words on a blog that I don’t pay attention to because there are a million things to do and learn in order to be shooting at the super pro level I admire in others and want for myself. So, in between all the business/marketing/shooting/downloading/graphic design/sales work I will check in here and share a few thoughts… sometimes it just feels good to talk about what’s going on in my world. Great… the internet is my shrink.

Atticus Arrives!

There is something to be said about love from a dog. I met a lot of cats and dogs the last couple days at various Animal Shelters… it was fun, stinky and sad but I ended up bringing home Atticus, a 9 month old black lab mix… he is fetching, dropping the ball, sitting, posing for the camera, housebroken and microchipped… a bit skinny and has kennel cough but he is currently medicated and lounging on my large bed and we are looking forward to jogging at liberty park, playing fetch at the dog park, and introducing Atticus to Jupiter, Rex, Bear Dog, Atlas, Boogs, Cole Dog, Indy and the rest of the pack.

Frozen Death – HiLife Salon – Melinda Ashley

I just finished doing a test shoot for HiLife Salon and their upcoming Frozen Death Hair Show. We had a lot of fun and want to give special thanks to the models, stylists, make-up artists, and Matt from Model Citizen for letting us shoot in his space.

Re-entry into Salt Lake

After a week at the the ranch I’m back in Salt Lake and feel busy as ever with upcoming shoots and with all the images from previous shoots along with the new website, which is closer to being done, and just overall management of my time and balance of life. As much as I love my work I have to pull my head out of the 3 monitors I’m staring at… hench a week in the mountains of the Dixie National Forest. I figured I would post a few favorite shots of the week and highly suggest you go to the ranch when you need to hit the ‘reset’ button on life.

Hello world!

First blog experience ever… As I sit on a ranch in Boulder Utah out of cell phone service but with wireless internet (there’s a LAN line), I’ve been here a week…with friends and alone, working on my website and reconnecting with nature and myself. I continue to have great experiences here and take plenty of photos that I want to be able to share without feeling the need to upload a bunch to my website or to my facebook or myspace either… sometimes I just want to post a favorite photo of the day and not feel like it has to be anything special… and since I like to keep a journal even though I haven’t for 15 years, I think it’s a great time to start again. I still believe that if life is worth living it’s worth recording so here it goes!
